Beyond Access: Building Authentic Inclusion for Students of Determination
Session Summary:
This interactive workshop will explore how schools can move beyond surface-level accessibility to create meaningful, sustainable inclusion for Students of Determination (SODs). Drawing on practical case studies from the UAE and international best practice, participants will engage in strategies that strengthen teaching, leadership, and whole-school culture.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will: - Understand the difference between integration and true inclusion. - Explore how to implement evidence-based teaching strategies (e.g., scaffolding, universal design for learning, differentiated instruction). - Learn how to develop individualised education plans (IEPs) that are not only compliant with UAE legislation but also responsive to the student’s voice and aspirations. - Consider family-school partnerships as a driver for inclusion. - Reflect on how school leadership teams can embed inclusion in policy, practice, and professional development.
