Sorcha Coyle

English Teacher

Rashid School for Boys

I have been teaching in the Gulf region for the last 8 years as I thoroughly enjoy the lifestyle here. From my experience, an expat teacher is at their happiest and best when they feel personally, professionally, and financially empowered. In my time working abroad, I have saved over 775,000 AED, which I have used to buy 2 properties and start an investment portfolio for my future retirement. My focus is on helping other expat teachers to improve their financial well being through careful planning and savvy saving while still enjoying their life and travelling extensively. I also run the Empowering Expat Teachers online community, which currently has 8,600 future and current expat teacher members.

26 February 2020 | 17:00 - 17:30 | English | How to Be a Financially Empowered Expat Teacher

In this workshop, expat teachers will learn not only how to fulfil their financial goals while working abroad, but understand why it is vital to be financially well. In order to do this, they must determine their financial goals and their timeframe. Then they must make a specific and realistic plan, which includes a budget, to start saving as much as possible each month. I will go through my own top 5 techniques that have motivated me to boost my own savings. Finally, I can talk about factors to consider when financially planning for retirement.
