Roisin Casey

Year Lead Kindergarten and Child Protection Officer

Clarion School

As an Early Years educator with almost a decade of experience my pedagogy is centered on the belief that all children are capable and competent learners. I strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child. I encourage children to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from their experiences through hands-on, inquiry-based learning activities. I am also passionate about promoting wellbeing in the classroom and throughout the school community. I believe that when children feel safe, valued, and respected, they are better able to engage in learning and reach their full potential. I work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure that the needs of each child are met and that their wellbeing is at the forefront of all decision-making. In addition to my work as an educator, I am also an advocate with the Global Schools Advocates Programme, working to introduce Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the wider community. I believe that it is important for children to understand the interconnectedness of the natural world and to learn how to live sustainably in order to protect the planet for future generations. I strongly believe in incorporating the wonder principle into learning, as I believe that it is through wonder and curiosity that children are able to make connections and truly engage in learning.

Embracing Risk in Early Years Education: Fostering Environmental and Sustainability Awareness

Embracing Risk in Early Years Education: Fostering Environmental and Sustainability Awareness is a topic that highlights the importance of encouraging risk-taking and environmental awareness in the development of young children. In early years education, it is crucial to provide a supportive and safe environment where children can take calculated risks and make mistakes, as this supports their growth in confidence, creativity, problem-solving and self-awareness. By incorporating Environmental and Sustainability Education into the curriculum, teachers can create hands-on, interactive learning experiences that encourage exploration, discovery and sustainability practices. Strategies for encouraging risk-taking in the classroom include providing a supportive environment, encouraging children to take calculated risks and allowing for experimentation and making mistakes. By fostering a love for learning and a commitment to sustainability, we can lay the foundation for a brighter future.
