Hannah Mainds

Head of Global Awareness Studies & Service Learning / Secondary Ecoliteracy Teacher

The Arbor School, Dubai

As an experienced Environmental Education teacher with a passion for curriculum development and integrating ecoliteracy into mainstream curriculua. Throughout my 12-year career, I have developed expertise in inquiry-based learning and environmental education, and I have had the opportunity to work with students of all ages. At The Arbor School in Dubai, I am currently the Head of Global Impact and Service Learning leading on Inquiry. In this role, I have had the opportunity to develop and implement an ecoliteracy curriculum that integrates eco principles and inquiry-based learning throughout the key stages. I have also had the pleasure of devising my own inquiry cycle, The Mainds Model, which has been instrumental in shaping the way that we teach Ecoliteracy at Arbor. In my role as Head of Global Impact and Service Learning, I have collaborated with local sustainable businesses to create real-world educational pieces, planned and led local environmental projects, and identified and developed service-learning opportunities for KS4 students who are working towards our bespoke Global Impact Certificate. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to curriculum and professional development and have designed and delivered practical CPD opportunities in sustainability, inquiry-based learning, and visible thinking techniques. I believe that these concepts are crucial to empower colleagues to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make a positive impact on their teaching.
