Leading Schools Through the AI Shift
Session Summary:
Learning as we go, but most importantly, making a start.
We were not taught how to lead schools through AI yet here we are learning alongside our staff, students, and communities. This session shares the real, on-the-ground journey of school leadership during a time of rapid change.
What started as a simple project to explore how AI could support teacher workload quickly spiraled into something much bigger. It led to rewriting core policies and creating clear guidelines around the use of AI, asking better questions. The whole school became part of this journey which sparked deeper thinking about AI, pedagogy, and who should lead this change for meaningful impact.
The session will share how AI is already shaping practice in areas such as inclusion, literacy, personalizing learning, student research, and future pathways. We’ll also review the growing concerns around academic integrity, the role of coursework, and the urgent need to review how we assess, guide, and support learners and share what we have done as a school so far.
As leaders we are now guiding schools through one of the biggest transformations in education. This session is not about having all the answers, it’s about taking the first steps even we do not always get it right.
