Stephen graduated in 1993 and then enjoyed 24 years of teaching Design and Technology education. He first taught in the U.K., then later in New Zealand, and more recently in the Middle East, so he has a good understanding of the issues and challenges faced by DT teachers around the world. As Head of Department, Stephen developed the subject and its associated resources, designing and commissioning a completely new DT block in one school and introducing CAD/CAM facilities in each school he taught at. The experience that he’d had in furniture making/designing, which he did prior to teaching, came in useful in New Zealand where he was able to work with students on vocational courses too. Stephen is a dedicated Design and Technology enthusiast who now uses his experience to look after the sales, training and support needs for TechSoft Customers in many parts of the U.K. and overseas.
28 February 2018 | 10:30 - 11:00 | English | Innovative DT Labs
Stephen will show how a wide range of computer controlled equipment can be used within an innovative DT lab. From advanced CNC milling machines to the latest in plasma cutters, laser cutters, 3D printers and even embroidery machines, often the design process is the same. Students simply choose the output medium they need for their chosen design. During the talk, Stephen will share some of his experiences using this equipment in schools both in the U.K. and the Middle East. Attendees will hopefully be inspired by some of the sample projects shown.
