Paul Stephany is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. For over 20 years, he developed behavioral programs and conducted training in clinics and schools in Northern California. In addition to his extensive experience in the treatment of children with autism and developmental disabilities, Paul has produced many school-wide and classroom positive behavior support programs. He has also developed comprehensive training programs for parents, teachers, therapists and school administrators on applied behavior analysis and evidence-based practice. In 2014, Paul came to Poland and joined his wife and partner, Dr. Monika Suchowierska-Stephany to lead Fundacja Krok po Kroku – The Step by Step Foundation. In addition to operating an autism clinic and therapeutic preschool in Warsaw, the foundation provides school consultation and training throughout Poland and Eastern Europe.This year, Paul and several of his colleagues in the UAE established Applied Behavior Specialists, a consulting firm that offers a wide variety of programs and services for schools.

This presentation will focus on evidence-based strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to decrease problem behavior and improve student performance in a wide variety of school settings. Although the principles of ABA are widely known to be effective in autism treatment, most schools underutilize this “Science of Learning.” A significant body of research shows that classroom and school-wide programs based on ABA have made significant improvements in student behavior and academic performance. This presentation will provide relevant examples and practical recommendations to help school administrators put the technology of behavior to work in their schools.
