SPEAKER SESSIONS

Innovation Stage

26 February 2019 | 12:00 - 12:30 | English | The Data Balancing Act

School leaders face a delicate balancing act between the expectations of authorities and parents for robust evidence of the effectiveness of their teaching with the increasing workload faced by teachers and their ability to quickly and reliably capture student data that is meaningful and usable.

  • How much data should schools be capturing?
  • How can schools ensure the data has an impact in the classroom?
  • How can schools reduce the burden on individual teachers?

The panel, comprising assessment experts and leading teaching practitioners, will discuss these topical questions and suggest pragmatic and effective ways to resolve this problem.

Innovation Stage

28 February 2019 | 13:30 - 14:00 | English | The value of value-added

Value-added measures provide a fairer and more reliable way for schools to benchmark themselves against other schools. And by extending the analysis to cohorts, subjects and groups school leaders can identify where teaching is having the most positive impact, as well as areas that need improvement.
Paul Charman from Fischer Family Trust explains how they use value-added scores based on their CAT4 data to inform school improvement processes and to support engagement with external stakeholders including parents, accreditation bodies and inspection authorities.
