Dr. Nicholas V. Orland is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D) and a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in 14 states in the USA. He has been applying learning principles to improve socially significant behaviors for persons with autism and developmental disabilities for over 20 years (with seven years in a senior leadership position and five years as a university professor). Dr. Orland is the Chief Program Officer of the Dubai Autism Center. He supervises a staff of 90 (including behavior analysts, teachers, psychologists, SLPs, and OTs) and ensures systems are in place to provide evidence-based education for 180 learners. Dr. Orland provides clinical supervision and mentorship to staff implementing ABA-based educational programming, including DI/Language for Learning, ABLLS-R, EFL, PEAK, AFLS, Canvas, VB-MAPP, LIFE Emergence, AIM, and Socially Savvy assessments/curriculums. Dr. Orland is also an adjunct faculty member in the United States, where he teaches at the Master and Doctoral Levels for students studying the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis.

Adaptive Behavior and ABA: How Applied Behavior Analysis Can Promote Choice, Independence, and Community Competence

This presentation will provide a brief overview of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and how ABA-based strategies can assist individuals on the autism spectrum with developing the appropriate adaptive skills to lead a happy and independent life. Everyone (including individuals with ASD) is capable of living and working in the community with the proper support, and this talk will provide strategies on how this is achievable.
