"From the classrooms, our and your dreams begin, and you draw the future of your country from your books."

School life builds you, so you can build the nation. This is the encouragement His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, gave students who are expected to be back in school from today.

Some 1.1 million students will be back to school today at 616 public schools across the nation.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday ahead of the new academic term, Sheikh Mohammed told the students that schools give them science so "you can give us glory".

"Tomorrow (Sunday) starts the school year, and we will continue the journey of education for more than a million students in our country. From your classes, our dreams and yours begin. You draw the future of your country in your books.

With you, the country rises! Make your school your nation. May God protect and guide you," Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also took to Twitter to give some valuable to advice to the students.

"My dear students, capture the knowledge of science, good morals and commit yourself to high ethics and strengthen them in your hearts. Attain your academic excellence with hard work and perseverance, for excellence is our demand and goal on the path to success," he tweeted. "Looking forward to the educational process that promotes learning, thinking and creativity. Let us continue to contribute to society to help encourage students towards achieving their dreams and aspirations."

Meanwhile, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), called on male and female teachers across the country to maximise their efforts in taking care of the students.

She also urged students to work hard, be diligent and serious so as to deliver "resounding success and excel in their academic pursuits". "Nations make progress by the rapid progress achieved in education, knowledge and scientific research as these constitute the building blocks for the present and future.

"High-quality education and provision of world-class, advanced learning methods and tools are among the top priorities of the country's leadership while seeking to deliver strategic goals of the UAE Vision 2021," she added.

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, congratulated students on the start of the new academic year 2018-2019 and wished them an "exciting learning journey".
