UAE launches a new 'Back to School' policy to help parents, pre-schoolers

Policy launched upon a recommendation by the National Happiness and Positivity Programme.

Parents of pre-schoolers and kindergarten pupils in the UAE have something to cheer them up when school days are back.

A new "back to school" policy has been launched by the Federal Government in coordination with the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, to allow parents escort their children to school on the first day of the school year.

The policy, launched upon a recommendation by the National Happiness and Positivity Programme, comes in line with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to make the back to school process easier for both, the parents and schoolchildren.

Ohoud Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Quality of Life, said: "The new policy reflects our keenness to strengthen the family’s role and achieve a balance between social life and work.”

Under the new policy, parents of pre-school and kindergarten children will have short working hours to accompany their children on the first day of school.

Parents will be given flexible working hours in the first week of school.

Federal workers

The policy will enable 28,000 parents working for the federal government to accompany their children, totalling more than 90,000, to their schools.

Over 4,000 pre-school pupils, who under the age of five years, will benefit from the new rule.

The policy aims to allow children to adapt to the school environment, enhance family cohesion and ensure family and social stability.

It also aims to scale up happiness and satisfaction rates among parents and school administrators and teaching staff.

The back to school policy grants ministries and federal bodies the authority to give their staff members, fathers and mothers, flexible working hours by allowing them to come late or leave early in the first week of school.

Al Roumi who is also the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future congratulated pupils and parents on the new academic year and wished them a happy school year filled with success and excellence.
