Dubai Down Syndrome Centre opens

Centre aims to empower children with Down syndrome to become active members of society.

A new centre to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents with Down syndrome has opened in Dubai.

Inaugurated by Hessa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, the Dubai Down Syndrome Centre was founded to offer 5 to 18-year-olds with Down syndrome a safe environment where they can learn life, social and independence skills - empowering them to become active members of society.

The minister toured the centre's facilities where she was shown the education mechanisms in place to enrich the pupils' experiences.

The centre's educational team is comprised of occupational and speech therapists and teachers specialising in art, music, drama, and physical educational, reported state news agency Wam.
