Katy Parkinson

Founder Director, Lexonik

Katy Parkinson is the inspiration and creator behind the ‘Lexonik’ methodology.  Prior to developing the Lexonik programmes and setting up Sound Training for Reading Ltd, she was a senior Learning and Language Advisor in a large urban unitary authority.  It was here, and whilst teaching and observing mainstream students who were experiencing difficulties with reading, that Katy used her interest and expertise in phonology and vocabulary development (and their effects on reading) to develop Lexonik. Katy has 27 years’ teaching experience, specialising in supporting students with dyslexia.  She holds a postgraduate certificate (PGC) in Special Education and was an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA). Her commitment to enabling every child to fulfil their potential is underpinned by the belief that students have been, and will continue to be, her best teachers.  Katy passionately believes that every individual, regardless of background, has the right to be literate.

16 November 2021 | 15:10 - 15:30 | English | To Make Great Leaders, We Need Great Learners…Who Love Literacy.

What’s it going to take to create some of the world’s best entrepreneurs, leaders and creators, right in the heart of the UAE? That success is born from a thirst for knowledge, which is found in nurtured understanding of reading and vocabulary. Classroom leaders and educators have a direct link to the future of their scholars, and all of them could improve the outcomes…if only they learnt to read again. So how do we help teachers teach? And how do we ensure today’s young brains really are our most resilient and ‘literacy competent’ yet? This workshop will be a practical exploration of the explicit teaching of vocabulary and reading for any classroom.
