Jonathan Hughes -D’Aeth was educated at Haileybury College and at Liverpool University, and Queens’ College Cambridge.
He was appointed to teach Geography at Rugby School in Warwickshire. In addition during his 16 years there he was selected for an exchange post at Melbourne Grammar School, in Australia and for his final 5 years was a Housemaster of a boarding house for 50-60 13-18 year old boys.
In 1995, Jonathan was appointed to be Headmaster of Milton Abbey School in Dorset. It was at that stage a small boarding school for boys and facing a tight financial situation of falling numbers and a very poor infrastructure. Over the 15 years he was Head he was able to secure the school’s financial position, increasing the pupil base, developing the facilities within the school and introducing Co-education into the 6th form. The school’s reputation was greatly enhanced as it became well known for its ability to bring the best out of every child.
Jonathan played an active role as a committee member and Chairman in 2005 of the Boarding Schools Association. (A national grouping of Boarding Schools from all sectors of the British and international education sector.) In this capacity and as a member of the executive of SHMIS . (The Society of Heads in Independent Schools) he was involved with negotiations and consultations with UK Government about boarding standards and regulations and restructuring public exam systems.
He was appointed Headmaster of Repton School Dubai in 2010 retiring from there in 2017. He subsequently spent 6 months with Evolvence Knowledge Investments ( EKI) as Chief Education Officer.
