Founder and Director

Director and founder of Acorn Special Tutorials a program for persons with intellectual impairments ranging from early intervention to vocational training. The school is 30years old and also offers professional development courses and parent training and empowerment classes. I have a Masters in Special needs education from Walden University in The US. I co-founded Special Education Professionals in 2000 a body that offers consultant services and professional training. I am the Chair of the Private Schools Association sub Committee on Special Needs Education in Kenya and technical advisor to the First Lady of Kenyan disabilities issues. I am a firm believer and advocate for early diagnosis and intervention for children with disabilities as I have experienced within my program the benefits it has through the years of my practice.

My presentation will address what is required to have effective inclusion from the very early years of education that will translate to successful inclusion at all stages of education and life. The areas that will be discussed will include:

1) Personnel preparation using a multidisciplinary approach
2) collaboration amongst team members 3) family empowerment and involvement
