Using interactive technology and gamified learning is important in today's digital age to keep students engaged and motivated. It helps to create an optimal environment for students to thrive in. Generation Global's student gamified platform, the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure, is one such platform where we connect young people (13-17) from around the world to learn, interact, and dialogue with their global peers on important global issues. In the process, young people gain confidence, global connections and develop skills such as critical thinking, questioning, active listening, global communication, and reflection. This talk will provide participants with a better understanding of how technology can help personalise the learning experience, support active learning, and foster dialogue skills, as well as knowledge on Generation Global tools and platforms that use game-based learning to promote empathy, cultural competency, and global awareness among young people.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality have become common words while using social media every day in terms of filters. However, when AR comes in combination with education, it enhances interactivity, visualisation of a concept. Earlier, books were the only source of information, then came video tutorials however with AR the concepts can be easily brought into the actual world, which simplifies the learning process. For example, while learning about the digestive system, if we read text from a book and quickly scan it to see what a 3D digestive system looks like with a pop-up text explaining its function, we can see and learn at the same time. Apart from that the ability to add voice in AR apps, helps students hear the information, this can particularly help with special students to learn at their own convenience.

Having conducted further primary and secondary research, I am ever more passionate about our relationship with technology. I believe, now more so than ever, that most adults have a negative relationship with technology. Many of which, a toxic relationship. Our ability to focus is decreasing. Our ability to build relationships with others is on the decline. Our self-esteem is crumbling. Why? Because we are becoming more and more addicted to the dopamine hits we receive from our social media accounts and are possibly the most introverted generation for centuries. A talk I believe people need to attend, acknowledge, reflect and share. We need to start looking in the mirror and helping ourselves. Then, we might think differently about the relationship children have with tech.

In this session, I'm going to introduce the participants to the Design-based project learning model and why it should be leveraged for technology education. The term project-based learning (PBL) is often used vaguely to describe learning by doing. In design-based project learning, we combine various modern pedagogical approaches with PBL to create optimal learning opportunities for promoting valuable future skills and to motivate the learners. To make an 'ordinary' project into a design-based project, we can apply a design process, where students design something for others to enjoy. Doing this adds a motivating, meaningful layer to PBL. “Let’s create value for others together”. That really is what drives learners to achieve more than the minimum while also making them feel happy and needed. In addition to presenting the principles of Design-based project learning, I will introduce a few practical applications from elementary classrooms.
