Leadership stream

27 February 2020 | 12:30 - 13:00 | Literacy, Self-Belief and the Implications For Examination Success

The ability to succeed in school is often influenced by poor literacy and student’s own attitudes to learning.  In a recent study of 40,000 students it was identified that in many cases, students with high literacy rates were being held back due to unrecognised attitudinal issues, such as low self-regard, perceived learning capability and confidence in learning. Students with both lower literacy rates as well as lower attitudes to study were at even greater risk of underachievement.
In this session, Bernadette Bryzyska, GL Education’s Head of Research, will review the regional trends and outline how schools in the UAE can build on their existing assessment data from CAT4, literacy and wellbeing measures to identify these “at risk” students and develop strategies to secure the best outcomes for all students.
