Banu Balaji is a seasoned occupational therapist with over two decades of experience in HSE, Ireland, specialising in working with children and families within the realm of child and adolescent mental health. Banu is a visionary entrepreneur, embarking on an exciting technology  to revolutionise support systems for parents and teachers of children of determination, leveraging innovative solutions to enhance accessibility and quality of care. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and a Master's degree in Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Banu has honed her expertise through diverse roles in both adult mental health and child and adolescent mental health settings, spanning community outreach to inpatient care. Banu is also a Sensory Integration Practioner and speclizes in Sensory Attachment Intervention Currently, Banu operates in a private capacity, collaborating with TUSLA and the HSE to support children in care. Her focus lies in empowering parents and caregivers, facilitating their journey towards finding joy in parenting by equipping them with tools and strategies to foster healthy regulation in children. Banu also produces and hosts Therapod podcast where she makes therapeutic information easy to understand and accessible to parents and teachers. The Badly Behaved Child- What Can Teachers Do?

This presentation brings focus into the underlying causes of behaviour difficulties in the classroom. We also talk about strategies teachers can use to make their classrooms a safe learning space for all. Using clinical reasoning and experience, the speaker seeks to bring to the attention of the teachers the need for an understanding of therapeutic whole class and inclusive strategies. There will also be a demo on Therapix which is a digital multidisciplinary product that quickly informs teachers of the right strategies and allows collaboration between school, parents and carers.
