Educational Technology Coordinator

The American School of Bombay

Born in the United States and raised in Brazil, Alexander is a third-culture kid and third-generation international educator. With a background in game development and a passion for technology, he moved to India and began working in education, where he has remained for the past eight years. Working for most of his career in elementary school as a technology integrator, he has seen firsthand the incredible potential for innovative change through the effective use of technology. He has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa, with a focus on building teacher leaders in international schools. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a lucky husband, a proud father, and a lifelong learner. In his free time, you will find him engaged in virtual reality, reading, spending time with family, or discovering a new tool. Alexander is currently the EdTech Coordinator at the American School of Bombay, where he works to ensure that the integration of technology aligns with pedagogical best practice and enhances student learning. One of his primary drives has been to meaningfully integrate virtual reality with a transdisciplinary lens, connecting it with social, emotional, and ethical learning.

Deploying high-end mobile headsets, the Oculus Quest has moved virtual reality out of a fixed location and into any learning space. Participants will receive access to a mobile app designed in-house to educate and share resources, integration stories, and research. Best practices will be shared to encourage other institutions to learn from and iterate upon the school's success.
