25 February 2020 | 10:30 - 11:00 | English | Can you really learn in virtual reality?
Can you learn in virtual reality? What kind of skills you can learn in virtual environments and what skills must be learned in physical spaces? How can you get the biggest impact on learning with the help of VR? At the University of Eastern Finland, Savonlinna Teacher Training School, we were doing research for two years to answer these questions. We found out that there are three key elements in the use of VR in education to have a positive impact on learning: immersion, content creation, and collaboration. In this keynote, I will share what we learned and how you can successfully integrate VR into learning.
26 February 2020 | 12:30 - 13:00 | The Future of Scaling Skills Development
Two organizations from Finland, ThingLink and Omnia Education Partnerships, both having a mission to solve global challenges in education, have now partnered to create a scalable solution for TVET-related (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) skills development for UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Development). The global challenge we are addressing is how to teach skills to millions in diverse circumstances. In the keynote, I will share a concrete example of an immersive and scalable skills development solution. Together we are creating an interactive learning landscape going beyond traditional e-learning. The goal is to offer quality TVET solutions and skills development to vulnerable populations and hard-to-reach areas. ThingLink is a Finnish company and a visual learning solution for education, remote training and skills development. ThingLink is also a winner of the UNESCO ICT in Education prize.
27 February 2020 | 11:30 - 12:00 | Global virtual school - Education for everyone
In this keynote I want to share our project where we try to solve some of the most difficult global challenges in education with the best Finnish Universities, UNESCO and Microsoft. How to train millions of new teachers and give the opportunity to learn for everyone. First phase of this project is bringing Finnish teacher education to the cloud. The second phase is building a global virtual school to bring education to everyone. Right now in the first phase we are bringing Finnish teacher education to the cloud in collaboration with Finnish Universities. We believe that teachers not only help shape the future of millions of children; but also help shaping a better world for all. We will share concrete examples of how high-quality teacher training can be scaled to millions all around the world. We are now inviting new global partners to be part of globally scalable teacher training program and creating a global virtual school for everyone.
