GESS launches education awards

Region’s premiere educational B2B platform to recognise outstanding educators and educational supplies and solutions providers

As the education sector continues to be a key pillar of development initiatives in the Gulf states, GESS, the Middle East’s premiere educational exhibition has launched a recognition programme honouring outstanding contributions to the advancement of teaching and learning across schools in the GCC.

Dubbed the GESS Education Awards (GEA), the inaugural edition of the awards will be presented on 5th March 2014 at a gala dinner on the second day of the GESS 2014 exhibition.

“The awards will celebrate outstanding success of various stakeholders in the education sector – from teachers to organisations that are making it possible for young people to receive the best quality education at par with global standards. It will highlight and reward the quality and diversity of people, establishments as well as the products and solutions that contribute to the development of education as a whole in the region, making it the key pillar that it is for the progress of nations in the GCC,” said Matt Thompson, Project Director, F&E Group, organisers of the GESS Education Awards.

In recognising excellence in the sector, GEA hopes to encourage the raising of educational services & product standards throughout the industry and aims to be recognised throughout the sector as the accolade of excellence.

The GEA are broken down into two sections - those for educational companies providing products and solutions for schools and those for teachers, schools and educational professionals. Details on the award categories and entry submission may be obtained at www.gesseducation.com/awards.
Among the categories that have received an early rush of nominations include those that will be presented to individuals and academic institutions that have adopted and practiced the Best use of ICT / e-Learning in the Classroom; Ambassador for the Environment, Community Award for Leadership and Innovation in Education Award.

Two of the most coveted awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award and Outstanding Contribution in Education Award.

Meanwhile, these awards will be presented to establishments that provide educational institutions (either directly or indirectly) with high-quality, safe products appropriate to every day teaching and learning needs - K12 Resource/Equipment Supplier of the Year; SEN Resource/Equipment Supplier of the Year; Higher Education Resource/Equipment Supplier of the Year; Best Free ICT / App Product; Best Paid for ICT / App Product; Best Resource or Equipment – non ICT; Best Product to Promote Health and Fitness in the Classroom; Local Education Supplier of the Year; Global Education Supplier of the Year; and Innovation Product Awards.

As the premier education show in the Middle East, featuring over 300 businesses and organisations from over 35 countries and 7000 educational professionals, GESS 2014 connects various stakeholders across the education platform, enabling educational suppliers and solutions providers to access important decision makers in the education sector throughout the region who are always on the look-out for products or services that will help them deliver a better quality of education, and enhance their services to their clients.

GESS also features The Global Education Forum (GEF), which provides an extensive educational programme to help teachers, educators and academics of all levels develop their skills, gain insight from international experts and take home some practical teaching methods. GEF offers a wide range of seminars, exhibitor workshops, abstract sessions and keynote presentations, all under the theme of technology in education.

For next year, GEF has adopted the theme “Education and the 21st Century: Skills, Opportunities and Challenges” to provide local and international insights and best practices that will help the region further boost education standards, meet the demands of the workplace, equip young people with the right skills to find employment and contribute to the long-term development of the region through world-class education.

GESS and the Global Education Forum are organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and supported by His Excellency Humaid Moh’d Al Qutami, Minister of Education for the United Arab Emirates.
