UAE to train 'ambassadors of the future'

An ambitious UAE programme to train the world’s first "ambassadors of the future" has been launched in Dubai. Candidates will be government employees from across all sectors and they will serve three-year terms.

The ambassadors will represent the UAE at regional and international events which address areas of their professional expertise.

Departments and government bodies will nominate people and an official committee will then whittle down the list and select their ambassadors of the future.

The initiative was announced by Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and The Future at the Global Future Councils event which ended on Sunday.

"The new programme to train the ambassadors of the future establishes the UAE as the foremost international centre of the future industry," said Mr Al Gergawi.

"The initiative supports the leadership’s vision to build bridges of cooperation between nations, and to implement bold ideas and innovative visions in an effort to shape a better future for coming generations."

More details about how the programme works are expected to be released in the next few months.

The Global Future Councils gathered more than 700 scholars and future experts from 75 countries at the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

Delegates looked at developing practical solutions for the challenges that are likely to arise across healthcare, education, transportation, water and food security.
