Top UK school coming to Dubai in 2017

One of the UK’s best schools, North London Collegiate School (NLCS), on Thursday announced it will open a campus in Dubai in September 2017.

Admissions are now open for pre-KG (priced at Dh83,000 annually) through to Grade 10 (priced at Dh120,000 annually). Grade 11 will be added in 2018 while Grade 12 will be added in 2019. Tuition fees for both Grade 11 and 12 are listed at Dh130,000 annually.

Thursday’s announcement by the prestigious school, founded in 1850, was made during a launch ceremony at Dubai Opera.

The co-education Dubai campus will be the first in the Middle East for NLCS, which has been described by the Sutton Trust as the most successful school in England for consistently getting its students into leading universities.

NLCS has been the number-one ranking IB school in the UK for the past 12 years.

Thursday’s launch event was attended by Dr Abdullah Al Karam, director-general of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and Philip Parham, British Ambassador to the UAE. Having worked at NLCS for 14 years, NLCS Dubai principal Daniel Lewis said: “A focal point of the NLCS Dubai campus will be our purpose-built Performing Arts Centre; combined with our sporting and games facilities. This will provide an opportunity for each student to develop their own interests.”

He told Gulf News that financial aid for NLCS Dubai students will not be available initially but “will come eventually, I think. We introduced it in [NCLS Jeju in Korea] but it took a few years for it to develop. And I think that will be the same here”.
Dr Al Karam said: “Every new school adds to the diversity of Dubai’s education landscape and we are confident that the opening of more international schools will offer greater choice to parents.”

Bernice McCabe, headmistress of NLCS, said, “Our school in Dubai is part of our international vision and we are committed to delivering an outstanding education for students in the UAE.”
