School’s charity expo in line with Year of Giving

AJMAN: The International Indian School, Ajman, the foundational school of Habitat Group which runs several other schools in the Northern Emirates, organised and curated a charity art exhibition, in association with Ajnab ed Crescent.

The exhibition of almost 500 paintings by school children, named “Art for Giving”, is an earnest attempt to join the “2017-Year of Giving” project initiated by the UAE Government.

Chief guest Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of the Thumbay Group, inaugurated the event on Thursday evening.

The paintings were made in oil, water colour and acrylic and were of different sizes, organised around varied styles and themes.

The exhibits, exactly 469 in number, were largely paintings by the students in four Habitat Schools - International Indian School, Habitat School Al Jurf, Habitat School Al Tallah and Habitat School Umm-al-Quwain, along with a few works by teachers.

The amount raised through this exhibition was donated to the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Ajman branch.

“Habitat for Hope”, the group’s annual charity scheme, instituted in 2015, made an additional contribution of 30,000 dirhams to the Emirates Red Crescent and a cheque for the amount was handed over by a team that consists of students, teachers, non-teaching staff and the management led by the Chairman Sheikh Sultan Bin Saqr Al Nuaimi.

“Giving is divine and Habitat Group has always believed in sharing its resources and fortunes with the larger society, especially those who are less fortunate among us. I am glad that the teachers and students have come up with an innovative and artistic way of helping the needy and the poor. It is a crucial aspect of education at Habitat and hence we started Habitat for Hope. The first two of its projects were done in Kerala, India in the medical and educational field, especially supporting the education of differently-abled students. This time, we are very happy to join the UAE government’s excellent and inspiring initiative through this project,” said the Chairman Sheikh Sultan Bin Saqer Al Nuaimi.

Managing Director Shamsu Zaman C. T. said that the Habitat Group will take its association with the Erc to another level from the fee concessions and scholarships given to the girl students they recommend for admission to our new school focusing on girls, the Habitat School Al Tallah in Ajman. “This year we have decided to issue ‘100 promissory notes’ to Red Crescent and the students who they issue these notes will be given 20% concession in tuition fees. The concession is not only for one year but throughout their education at the school,” said Shamsu Zaman.

Remarks were given at the launching ceremony by the CEO of the group, Adil C T and the Dean of the group, Wasim Yousuf Bhat, who explained the thought behind “Art for Giving 2017” and Habitat for Hope.

Principal of IIS, Qurat Ul Ain, said that the students have worked for a year in putting together the exhibition and that it is a great learning experience for the students. The exhibition was curated by the art department of International Indian School led by Rajeev.
