International Symposium of Neurology and Neurosurgery coming to Dubai

DUBAI:- King’s College Hospital London, has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), solidifying the two year partnership.

The partnership will promote academic collaborations with student and faculty exchanges, bring specialist conferences and workshops to the UAE amongst other key benefits to students and the sector. MBRU aims to become a global hub for innovative healthcare education by developing relationships with regional and international leading medical and educational institutes. The partnership will commence by bringing the London Neuroscience Academy Programme to the UAE, in the form of the International Symposium of Neurology and Neurosurgery, taking place from the 26th to the 28th of February 2018.

The CME accredited symposium will gather seven world leading neurosurgeons from the United Kingdom in Dubai to deliver three days of workshops and lectures set to equip over 700 attending UAE-based medical students and practicing clinicians with enhanced knowledge of new techniques and cutting-edge developments shaping the future of neurology and neurosurgery. Industry leading speakers include Dr. Sinan Barazi presenting on epilepsy in the region, Nick Thomas sharing his expertise on brain tumours, Dr. Sanj Bassi focusing on neuroplasty and vagal nerve stimulation (often referred to as a pacemaker for the brain), and Dr. Richard Gullan, discussing removing stutters using Occipital Nerve (deep brain) stimulation.

"Despite limited recent statistics on neurological disorder prevalence in the UAE, King’s College Hospital in London has seen around 100 cases from the UAE over the last five years, so we know this is a growing area of concern and an important area to provide enhanced local services and options to UAE patients so they don’t have to travel abroad to seek treatment," said Neil Buckley, Chief Executive Officer at King’s College Hospital London in the UAE.

King’s aims to stimulate an internationally coherent network of medical professionals driven by its firm belief that international medical experience and education remains vital in tackling health challenges effectively. In addition to the London Neuroscience Academy, King’s College Hospital London in the UAE has also developed the unique ‘London Faculty Programme’, which will see world leading experts, including neurosurgeons, from King’s in London and its partner hospitals visit patients in the UAE every four to six weeks for specialised procedures at King’s local Dubai and Abu Dhabi based Medical Centres.
