“Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb” Award to open doors for graduates
Dubai: More than 300 students were honoured for their achievements and innovative projects in the field of Information Communication Technology ICT at the sixth edition of the Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb Award 2013.
Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Education Minister, honoured the winners at a ceremony which took place at Zayed University in Dubai’s Academic Village.
The award which is sponsored by the ICT Fund, an initiative by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), saw the participation of 1,700 students and graduates. Among seven different categories, the award’s Science, Technology and Inventions category recorded the highest number of nominations this year. The other categories are media, marketing and mass communication; design; photography and cinematography; management and leadership; society and environment; and business and trade.
“The award can give these students many opportunities in their careers and it opens doors for them in terms of providing them with the right credentials and skill sets to add on their CVs,” Omar Mohammad Al Mahmoud, Acting CEO of ICT Fund, told Gulf News at the ceremony.
The ICT Fund and Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb joint judging committee received a number of distinguished projects that scored the highest rating such as “Smart Bins”, “Energy Harvesting System”, “Robot Goalkeeper”, and “Solar Thermal Energy Generator System using natural water resources, lakes and rivers”.
Projects in other fields were also recognised as fresh graduate Shaima Ebrahim Farag from Dubai’s Higher College of Technology received an award under the media category. “I received the award for a media exhibition that showcased students’ international award-winning movies, short films, graphic works and other media projects at my university,” she explained, adding that she hopes to take part again next year.
The Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb Award aims to encourage competition among UAE national students in both government and private universities and institutes to promote creativity and innovation.
