GESS Education to Run Webinar on Motivation for Educators & Students on the 2 June 2020
After the huge success of our first ever webinar, we're pleased to announce our second edition. The webinar "Motivation is King - Tips and Strategies to Motivate Yourself and Your Students During Distance Learning" will be chaired and moderated by Dr Richard Churches, Lead Adviser for Education Reform and Evidence-Based Practice at Education Development Trust and will feature GESS Award winners Olly Lewis, Assistant Headteacher responsible for Teaching and Learning, British International School Abu Dhabi, Louise McGeever, Vice Principal at Safa British School, Dubai and Kate Jones, Head of History, British School Al Khubairat.
Motivation is widely accepted by teachers and researchers as one of the key factors necessary for successful learning. Even the most well-intentioned and experienced teachers sometimes find it tough to keep students on track, especially now during this period of distance learning. Without face to face contact how do you know if your students are engaged? Equally with teachers and adults working from home, how do you motivate yourself? Our expert panel will share tips and advice based on personal experience to help you. Taking place on the 2 June 2020 14:00 BST (UK), 17:00 GST (Dubai).

Dr Richard Churches is Lead Adviser for Education Reform and Evidence-Based Practice at Education Development Trust. He has led many major large-scale government policy initiatives in England and across the world. He is the author of ‘Teacher-Led Research’ and ‘Neuroscience for Teachers’ (with Eleanor Dommett and Ian Devonshire).
Olly Lewis, Assistant Headteacher responsible for Teaching and Learning, British International School Abu Dhabi
Olly is Assistant Headteacher responsible for Teaching and Learning at The British International School Abu Dhabi. He is also a GESS Award winner in 2020, FCCT, speaker, blogger and #LearnLiveUAE founder.
Louise McGeever, Vice Principal at Safa British School, Dubai
With a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Glasgow and NPQSL, I have worked in primary education for over a decade. I have been living and working in the UAE since 2012 and I am currently Vice Principal at Safa British School, Dubai, where I have three years of senior leadership experience. Prior to my current position, I led a range of departments including Key Stage 1, Teaching and Learning and Curriculum Development. I have a passion for sustainability and global citizenship, and successfully developed a curriculum based around the Sustainable Development Goals, which was recognised at the GESS awards in 2019, winning 'Ambassador for the Environment.' As well as this, I am particularly interested in staff and student wellbeing, working with colleagues and parents to ensure this is at the forefront of all that we do at SBS.
Kate Jones, Head of History, British School Al Khubairat
Kate Jones is the Head of History at The British School Al Khubairat and author of Love To Teach and Retrieval Practice. She is also a GESS Award winner, blogger and podcast host.
